Barbara Marx HubbardNote: Due to an unexpected error at TV station, my interview with Dr. Richard Moss was aired last week instead of Barbara Hubbard.  We are sorry for any incon-venience!

This evening’s guest is author and internationally-renowned spiritual teacher, Barbara Marx Hubbard. Buckminster Fuller has called Barbara Marx Hubbard “the best informed human now alive regarding futurism and the foresights it has produced.”

Barbara Marx Hubbard (1929) has been called “the voice for conscious evolution of our time” by Deepak Chopra and is the subject of Neale Donald Walsch’s book “The Mother of Invention.” A prolific author, visionary, social innovator, evolutionary thinker and educator, she is co-founder and president of the Foundation for Conscious Evolution. She is the producer and narrator of the award-winning documentary series entitled Humanity Ascending: A New Way through Together and partnered with The Shift Network as a global ambassador for the conscious evolution movement; a shift from evolution by chance towards evolution by choice. Along with Shift, she launched the “Agents of Conscious Evolution” training and formed a global team to co-produce a global multi-media event entitled, “Birth 2012: Co-Creating a Planetary Shift in Time” on Dec. 22, 2012 – a historic, turning-point event; awakening the social, spiritual, scientific, and technological potential of humanity.

In 1984 her name was placed in nomination for the Vice Presidency of the United States on the Democratic ticket, calling for a “Peace Room” to scan for, map, connect and communicate what is working in America and the world. She also co-chaired a number of Soviet-American Citizen Summits, introducing a new concept called “SYNCON to foster synergistic convergence with opposing groups.

She is a Fellow of The Club of Budapest, and has received an honorary PhD in Conscious Evolution from the Giordano Bruno GlobalShift University. In addition she was awarded the first Doctorate in Conscious Evolution by Emerson Institute. She has established a Chair in Conscious Evolution at Wisdom University Graduate School and is a member of many progressive organizations, including the Evolutionary Leaders Group and the Transformational Leadership Council. She also co-founded the Association for Global New Thought (AGNT), and The World Future Society.

She has been the recipient of several awards including the first Peacebuilder Award by the Peace Alliance In Washington, DC.

Her books include: The Hunger of Eve: One Woman’s Odyssey toward the Future; The Evolutionary Journey: Your Guide to a Positive Future; Revelation: Our Crisis is a Birth –An Evolutionary Interpretation of the New Testament; Conscious Evolution: Awakening the Power of our Social Potential; Emergence: The Shift from Ego to Essence; 52 Codes for Conscious Self Evolution and Birth 2012 and Beyond: Humanity’s Great Shift to the Age of Conscious Evolution.

In 1945 the United States dropped atomic bombs on Japan, and the world caught its breath. This pivotal event deeply impacted the young Barbara Marx Hubbard, who found herself asking President Eisenhower, “What is the meaning of our power that is good”? Barbara’s 40+ year inquiry, and the answers she has found, offer invaluable assistance to us all at this time in our history. Despite the state of the world, we are truly on the threshold of great possibility, of our own conscious evolution.

Robert Thurman
Mitchell’s guest this evening is Robert Thurman, Professor of Indo-Tibetan Studies at Columbia University, to discuss Tibet, the role of HH Dalai Lama, and how our society could benefit  from the wisdom of Tibetan Buddhist thought in today’s world.
Noted in a NY Times Magazine profile as “The Dalai Lama’s man in America,” and having been named by Time Magazine one of the “25 Most Influential Americans,”
Robert has cultivated a worldwide awareness of Tibet through his writing and translation of important Buddhist texts, and activism. He is the co-founder with Richard Gere of Tibet House US and currently serves as the President of its Board of Trustees. Thurman has dedicated his life to the study and preservation of Tibet’s cultural heritage, and is the first American ordained as a Tibetan monk. All this along with his 45-year friendship with the Dalai Lama makes him the perfect voice for Tibet and its quest for freedom.

Thurman is also the President of the American Institute of Buddhist Studies, a non-profit affiliated with the Center for Buddhist Studies at Columbia University.

Having studied with His Holiness the Dalai Lama personally, Thurman was the first American monk of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. He is credited with being at the forefront of making Tibetan spirituality, philosophy, and art accessible and understandable in the West. He has a B.A., A.M. and Ph.D. degrees from Harvard and has studied in Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in India and the United States.

He is a popular professor in the Religion Department of Columbia University where he holds the Jey Tsong Khapa Chair in Indo-Tibetan Studies. Policy makers and the news media often seek Thurman’s knowledge of Tibetan history and culture. In this capacity, he has testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Tune in to hear Robert speak with Mitchell about the current status of Tibet, the Tibetan Diaspora and where we appear to be as a human species relative to ideas of Tibetan prophecy and potential.

This Week’s Shows – Barbara Hubbard on TV & Bob Thurman on Radio

Barbara Marx HubbardYou have all heard Barbara Marx Hubbard on both A Better World Radio & TV over the past several years.  She is a vital spark for reflection about where we are as a humanity in our evolutionary movement.  It’s a joy to hear her speak of her perspective, one which many of us share.

This interview was shot on location in Santa Barbara in Barbara’s living room.  The intimacy of the environment shines through in the interview.  May you be stimulated to new thoughts about our future and stewarding humanity to its next evolutionary leap through your your kind, integrity-based interactions with self and others.

Robert ThurmanI had the great joy of meeting Robert Thurman originally in the early 1980’s when I was a student of traditional Chinese Medicine and took a weekend seminar on Tibetan Medicine with His Holiness, the Dalai Lama’s physician, Yeshe Dhonden, with Bob as the translator.

Numerous times since then have I had the special opportunity to hear Bob Thurman speak at various events and programs, including at talks I’ve attended of the Dalai Lama’s, annual Tibet House auctions and at the Tibet dalai lamaHouse itself.

Robert has helped to elucidate the principles of Buddhist thought and psychology through his books and decades of teaching perhaps for no doubt many thousands of people across the world, and has, through the Tibet House and other initiatives, helped to preserve Tibetan culture during its period of Diaspora.

It is a great pleasure and honor that we will have Robert Thurman on A Better World to discuss, as above, matters of Tibet, Buddhist thought and applying it to the world-at-large.
