If you want to save the planet, it pays to care about the budget. That’s the message you helped send to Congress in the last two weeks. Together, more than 100,000 of us have signed, emailed and called on our elected leaders to end the Billion Dollar Big Oil Bonanza. And it has made a huge difference. Check out the video report-back we put together from our visit to D.C., and share it with your friends and family online. Then, chip in $5 to help us keep fighting, because this campaign is far from over. The good news is that we’ve already got the people, technology and know-how to meet all our energy needs without causing any pollution. But the government — our government — is standing in the way. And the fastest way to change the government’s priorities is to change the way it spends your money.

Together, we’ve put this issue on the agenda and rallied over 100 members of the House and Senate to support it. But in Washington D.C. right now, having a majority is only part of the battle. Congress is so hopelessly stuck in partisan gridlock, they can’t agree on anything. And a handful of pro-oil Senators are using that dysfunction to block all progress on ending oil subsidies in the budget.

Thanks to you, we’ve broken through — as evidenced by the strong support and a new call from the International Monetary Fund today for big governments like ours to stop investing in dirty energy.*

But it will take a lot more work before this fight is over, so here’s how you can help:

  1. Chip in to support this campaign. In the next few weeks we need to put pressure on the White House to make sure the President’s budget, due out next week, ends oil subsidies. And we need support to run ads, plan events, and print materials to convince the Senate to stop filibustering the clean energy economy and end the Big Oil bonanza once and for all.
  2. Spread the word by sharing this campaign online. A huge majority of Americans support ending oil subsidies, and the more of them know that Congress is dallying on this issue, the more likely Senate leaders like Harry Reid are to act.
  3. Use Social media to thank our friends Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, The Progressive Caucus and others who are leading the fight to end oil Subsidies.

Together, we’ve made amazing progress in the last few weeks. But there’s more to do. Thanks for taking action on behalf of the environment.
