Two guests who have been involved in nutrition virtually all their lives will be joining Mitchell to discuss this very important subject.
Patricia Bragg, the daughter of the world-famous Paul Bragg, pioneer in the Health & Wellness Movement in the U.S., will be joining Mitchell in today”s show along with Dr. Neal Barnard to talk about nutrition, wellness and understanding Alzheimers’s, with natural treatments for it.

Neal Barnard MD Mitchell will also be joined by Neal Barnard, M.D., clinical researcher, author, and health advocate. He has been the principal investigator or co-investigator on several clinical trials investigating the effects of diet on health.

Dr. Barnard was co-investigator on a study conducted in conjunction with Georgetown University, of the effect of dietary interventions in type 2 diabetes and was the principal investigator of a study on dietary interventions in diabetes, funded by the National Institutes of Health and conducted under the auspices of the George Washington University School of Medicine, in association with the University of Toronto.

Dr. Barnard was also the principal investigator of a study assessing the effects of dietary interventions on premenstrual and menstrual symptoms and of a study on weight loss in postmenopausal women.

New York Times best-selling author Neal Barnard, M.D., is an adjunct associate professor at the George Washington University School of Medicine, board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and president of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine in Washington, D.C. Funded by the National Institutes of Health, his clinical research revolutionized the treatment of type 2 diabetes.PBS will launch a documentary connected to Power Foods for the Brain in March 2013.

We are What we Absorb, Metabolize, Feel & Think & None of them!

veggieplatterIt should be obvious to any thinking person that what we eat, or more accurately, what we absorb and metabolize, in some real ways, we become.  Very concretely, our cells are fed by what nutrition we assimilate and can act with vitality as a result, or not.  Our body’s chi is affected by the chi that is in the food, its life-force, and this is what feeds our life-force.  If we eat high-vibration food, so our body, if not immediately, will gradually come to resonate with it.  Simply, the more alive food we eat, the more alive we become.

Now we can enhance or detract from quality, super-food through the other major aspect of our self-definition: our thoughts and emotions.  When we embrace and affirm thoughts and feelings which bring us deeper into love and compassion, it is my contention that our somatic digestion and cellular respiration is made more efficient and improved.  When we allow ourselves to wallow in negative, angry or fear-based feelings and thoughts, our hormones become adversely affected and digestion and elimination are thrown off.

You could say that there is a bio-chemical and bio-hormonal profile for every thought and certainly every emotion, which is essential a bundle of specially-charged thoughts.  How do we want to “profile” ourselves is a good question to ask of a person practicing living a conscious life.

processed foodWe live in a world of processed foods, fast foods, fake foods, genetically-modified foods, stored, siloed and frozen foods, machine-made and completely tampered with substances we call food.  The food Nature provided us of fruits, nuts, berries and vegetables are only rarely still in their pristine, life-giving state.  While advances have been made in many areas of life, this is one in which technology is confusing our cells, not aiding.  Our cells no longer recognize much of the substances on store shelves as food and the result is different forms of obesity, diabetes and degeneration. We need help!!

This week’s shows, both on TV and radio, bring out different aspects of these themes.  What power do we have over our bodies, how do we control, as well as flow with our body of chi, and how do we eat in a way that will enhance our health, longevity and high-level brain function.  Our distinguished guests are experts in these areas and there’s a lot to learn from them.

So our physical vessel is recycling the plants and animals from the soil and ‘becoming’ them, so I do hope for us all that they are ‘becoming’…because we want to be operating a well-oiled, well-fed system.  So on this material plane, we do become what we consume. But this also goes for our absorbing all sensory data whatever it may be.  Gurdjieff refers to impressions as food.  So we therefore want to be quite mindful of what impressions we ‘eat’ as much as the physical food we ingest. 

fresh veggie heartThere is another level on which there is the ongoing exchange of chi between the so-called environment and ‘ourselves’ and there is this sense of separation.  There is also a level on which we are none of the above and all of the above at the same time.  This is another level of consciousness altogether that is that perhaps best referenced as the soul, bearing witness and in some profound way, assigning meaning to the whole inhale-exhale phenomenon.  Short of that, being mindful of what we take in, physically and psycho-emotionally, could lead to our living long, healthy and optimally-healthy lives.

Who Leads the Way Toward Physical Wellness?

There are many health professionals who are now doing research into the causes of illness and the causes of health.  The picture is so not what we’ve been led to believe over the past 150 years, except when it comes to listening to the teachings of the natural hygienists such as Arnold Ehret, Norman Walker and the other great giants, or the students of Samuel Hahnemann and the study of homeopathy. Allopathic, known commonly as ‘western’ medicine, while having made extraordinary strides in emergency medicine, plastic surgery and the like, remains governed by big money interests instead of science and the Hippocratic Oath.  As a result, one is a significant risk relying solely on it for more serious, degenerative illnesses.

It has been the home of Gary Null’s Natural Living at noon Monday through Friday for around 30+ years.  Amy Goodman’s Democracy Now was birthed at WBAI.  They have an archive that is one of the greatest in the country, of speeches by Martin Luther King, other Civil Rights leaders, Alan Watts the brilliant teacher, American historian, the well-loved Howard Zinn, they have shows every week which reveal so much truth which comes from “following the money trail”, yet they don’t take any money from corporate sponsors.

wbaiWBAI has been a pioneer and leader in promoting The People’s Radio, and they need our help.  They have not been good in balancing their finances, it is my understanding that that is currently rapidly changing, and the transmitter must be paid for immediately or forever hold our peace: the station on the FM band really will cease to exist.

I have been on WBAI many times as guest and co-producer/co-host, with older producers such as Danah Geffen, John Harris, as well as Gary Null, Dr. Kamau Kokayi and Kathy Davis of those I can recall, and A Better World and I have been friends with, aligned with, and promoters of WBAI for decades, making donations, offering premiums, helping with fund-raising on the air and in the back room.
